Regional Development Council in Northern Mindanao (RDC-X) Chairperson and Misamis Occidental Gov. Henry S. Oaminal used his first State of the Region Address on June 30 in Cagayan de Oro City to confirm that seaport development now sits alongside airports and highways as a top regional priority under the MAS ASENSO Northern Mindanao Agenda. The Sultan Naga Dimaporo International Port Development Project in Lanao del Norte carries ₱534.99 million in 2026 GAA funding for construction, development, improvement, and rehabilitation of seaport facilities, with a further ₱200 million proposed for 2027. Once operational, the port is designed to serve as a direct gateway to the Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area, reinforcing Northern Mindanao's role as a logistics and trading hub. The RDC is also backing improvement and expansion at the Ozamiz, Jimenez, and Plaridel seaports, where the Philippine Ports Authority already has ongoing works raising and widening port areas to accommodate larger vessels and a new passenger terminal.
